The Litter-Robot 5 Pro, a high-end model from Whisker, promises to revolutionize pet care with its AI-powered features, including litter-level monitoring, health tracking, and facial recognition. However, my experience with this device has been less than satisfactory, to say the least. The AI features, which were the main selling point, failed to deliver on their promises, and I was left with a machine that couldn't even distinguish between my two distinct cats. The camera, which was supposed to provide valuable insights into my cats' litter box usage, was a disappointment, with the front-facing camera recording visits and the interior cameras providing only a live view, making it nearly impossible to catch a cat in the act. The facial recognition feature, Cat ID, struggled to identify my cats, leading to incorrect weight assignments and a frustrating experience for both me and my feline friends. Despite Whisker's efforts to correct the issues, the machine still failed to provide the level of accuracy and insight I was hoping for. In my opinion, Whisker has fallen into a common trap in the smart home industry, putting too much faith in AI's potential capabilities without fully understanding the complexities of real-world usage. While the Litter-Robot 5 Pro does its main job well, I would not recommend paying the premium for its AI features, as they are still a work in progress. Instead, I suggest saving yourself $100 and going with the regular Litter Robot 5, which offers all the necessary features without the camera. This way, you can enjoy the convenience of a litter robot without the disappointment of unfulfilled promises.
